Former Thai Police General Wirachai Songmetta has leveled serious accusations against more than 30 police officers. He alleges their direct involvement and links to illegal online gambling sites. The former general presented a substantial body of evidence to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to support his claims.
Wirachai's submission reportedly includes approximately 9,000 pages of bank statements and transaction records. This detailed evidence is said to trace financial flows connecting the accused officers to illicit gambling operations. The officers implicated hold ranks from police general down to sub-lieutenant, indicating a potentially widespread network. A specific site, Macauslot888, was cited in the allegations.
General Wirachai himself has a contentious history with the police force. He was dismissed in 2020 following a disciplinary inquiry. The official reasons cited included alleged involvement in a drug case and improper use of official vehicles. However, Wirachai maintains that his dismissal was a direct consequence of his vigorous efforts to crack down on illegal gambling operations. He is currently in the process of appealing this dismissal, asserting that the charges against him were fabricated to silence his investigations into corruption.
Wirachai claims these gambling networks extend to very senior officials within the government and police. He suggests his own removal was a deliberate strategy by these powerful figures to obstruct his investigations. Thailand maintains a strict legal stance against most forms of gambling. Despite this, illegal online gambling operations continue to thrive, posing a significant challenge to authorities. This latest exposé underscores the ongoing struggle against corruption within institutions tasked with upholding the law.
